When I first saw Charlie Work play, I could hear them all the way down the block from the disheveled house that was their stage. Walking inside, the energy was just as big as the sound they projected. Their dynamic guitar riffs and genuine lyricism captivated the audience with a warm hug that drives the spirit of modern midwest emo.
Although Charlie Work is a relatively new project, in the short amount of time they’ve been playing live together, they have succeeded in gaining an almost cult-like following. Don’t worry there’s no kool-aid, but if there were, you would drink it. The five members of the band bring their own individual styles to the writing block, creating a harmonious blend of their unique tastes spanning various genres and musical backgrounds. With the charm and spirit of lifelong friends, Charlie Work cuts through the mundanity of the mainstream. Their live shows grab you by the balls and punch you in the face with much needed originality, capturing a down to earth energy that makes you feel like you’re in on the joke. Just like their namesake, Charlie Work does what needs to be done, the work that only they can do.
